Chiesa has only been at Anfield for one season but struggled to make an impression – and a return to Italy could suit everybody. Milan would prefer a temporary deal whereas the Reds want to recoup some of the £11m they spent to buy him last year, according to journalist Orazio Accomando.

Chiesa himself is also pushing for the deal after making just 14 appearances and scoring two goals during the 2024-25 campaign. Spanish publication AS recently reported on a 'golden opportunity' for the forward to move to Atletico Madrid this summer.

Milan could also be rivalled by Chiesa's former club Juventus for his signature. The Italian international told Gazzetta dello Sport this week: "Juventus? I still love the club. Returning there one day? Why not."

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIESA?

Chiesa does not seem to be short of options, despite injuries and a lack of form seeing his reputation as one of the world's best players slip over the last few seasons. Remaining at Liverpool, however, appears unlikely.
